PURPOSE:To provide an information recording member without the reading laser beam being scattered by the cracking of the protective layer or the recording film and with the change in the recording and reading characteristics reduced. CONSTITUTION:The objectives are achieved by providing a protective layer consisting of at least one kind of material consisting essentially of the oxide, selenide, sulfide or nitride having the density of 50-80% of the bulk density. Furthermore, the ratio of the density of the protective layer close to the information recording film to that far from the thin film is preferably controlled to (1:0.5) to (1:0.85). Consequently, the protective layer withstands the external force, especially the tensile force, and the diffusion of the atom in the recording film into the protective film is strictly inhibited. |
