Laser energy is transmitted to tissue, using the hollow needle (10) of laser light transmissive material. The needle houses an optical fibre (12) coupled to the laser light source. The fibre is spaced from the needle wall by spacers (14,15,17). The needle tip (16) is preferably closed to isolate the needle interior from the body tissue and fluids. The fibre may end in a diffusing tip (18). A scatterer may be incorporated and the needle may house a wavelength converting dye. |
