A method of closing packaging in the shape of a tube or bag, in particular packaging for food products, characterized in that a contracted segment of the packaging is pressed in a non-metal ring puller, which is clipped on the contraction, applying closing pressure on its opposite sides, the shape of the contraction is made permanent, this shape being obtained by subjecting the contraction to a final closing pressure, where the contraction is pressed between opposite surfaces of basically straight pressing segments (38 and 42) of the compressing puller (2) and is forced into its final shape in which it has a lengthened cross-section along basically parallel pressing segments whose length is preferably at least twice as great as the distance between those pressing segments.6.
