A method of producing aryl ethers of glycolic acid, involving the oxidation of hydroxy-ethylenated phenols in the presence of a catalyst, characterized in that 2-aryloxy-ethyl alcohols are used, these being oxidized by sodium hypochlorite in an aqueous solution containing sodium bicarbonate and potassium bromide, while the catalyst used is tetrabutyl ammonium chloride or another quaternary ammonium salt and a 2,2,6,6-tetramethylopipericoxylic radical, while 2-aryoxyethyl alcohol is used in a stoichiometric quantity with respect to sodium hypochlorite.
