The towing hitch is for motor vehicles, and is in sections forming a rigid bar, with an attachment to a vehicle at each end. One attachment (2) has a hook (5), hinging on an axis (12) at right angles to the lengthwise one (29) between open and locking positions. A sprung catch (16-18) in the attachment automatically locks the hook in the working position when the attachment is pulled. The attachment can comprise a tube, with a slot milled in the end. The hook hinges on a pin in the slot, so that its rear part at least is accommodated in the latter. ADVANTAGE - Simple, reliable, easily fitted and of low cost.
