PURPOSE:To stabilize the discharge by preserving the bright point on an electrode at the top of the electrode even at instantaneous restart. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a high tension pulsed voltage application control means CR1 which starts the application of high-tension pulsed voltage from an igniter circuit IG to a high-pressure discharge lamp LA prior to the application start of the voltage for lighting from a stabilizer circuit BL to said high-pressure discharge lamp LA. When high-tension pulse voltage is applied, prior to the application start of the voltage for lighting, to the high-pressure discharge lamp LA, the intensity of the electric fields becomes the highest at the tips of both electrodes, and pulse discharge occurs at the tips of both electrodes. By this pulse discharge, the tips of both electrodes get in the conditions where electrons are easy to come out, and then if voltage for lighting is applied to the high-pressure discharge lamp LA, it starts stationary discharge at the tips of both electrodes, and the bright points are positioned at the tips of both electrodes from the beginning of the lighting start, and even at instantaneous start, the bright points on the electrodes can be maintained at the tips of the electrodes, whereby the discharge can be stabilized. |
