PURPOSE:To conserve the consumption of ink, in the recovery operation of a nozzle due to the driving of a pressure change means, by providing a general recovery mode wherein the consumption of the ink from the nozzle is little and a special recovery mode wherein the consumption of the ink is much in the recovery operation. CONSTITUTION:In the cap apparatus 9 of an ink jet printer, an almost semispherical projection 21 is provided to the front surface of the upper part of a cap main body 12 and a pressure means such as a pump is provided to the compressed air passage communicating with the top part of said projection 21 to constitute a pressure change means. Herein, a general recovery mode wherein the total consumption of the ink from a nozzle 17 is little and a special recovery mode wherein the total consumption of the ink is much are set to the recovery operation performing the recovery of an ink jet head 4. When a non-use time is long and the recovery of the head 4 is difficult when a power supply is closed, the special recovery mode is selected to extend the time relatively raising the pressure in an ink flow passage as compared with the general recovery mode to certainly perform the recovery of the head 4. |
