The invention relates to a process and an arrangement for the processing of a product in web form, especially for drying, the product being made to move over the outside of a cylindrical shell 1 and combustible gas and air or a mixture of these being fed to the inside of the shell 1 and burnt inside the shell 1, and the hot combustion gases coming into contact with the inner surface of the shell 1 for transmitting heat to the shell 1. In the shell 1 a plurality of combustion elements 5 have been arranged, which are distributed over the entire length of the shell 1 and are controlled in order to direct the hot combustion gases at the inner surface of the shell 1 in a direction lying perpendicular to the axis of symmetry of the shell 1. In order to achieve a reliable and simple solution, the combustion elements 5 used for combustion of the gas and the air are located in proximity to the axis of symmetry of the shell 1. <IMAGE>
