A system for handling lamellae in a spaced but face-to-face arrangement comprises a pair of facing hoop-shaped guides (12), sprockets (7, 8, 9) arranged in tandem array between the guides and a rack comprising a pair of parallel lengths of roller chain (16) supporting a plurality of slats (17) shaped to receive the edges of lamellae. The slats have projections at their ends which are positioned on infeed platforms (15) and pass along grooves (13) in the guides with the roller chains (16) engaging and being driven by one of the sprockets. The rack may be likened to a short length of a chain conveyor but can be brought to the apparatus, moved along the path defined by the guides and removed from the apparatus. |
