Trap trench to catch molten metal and to drain cooling wear. The trap trench (1) has a drainage layer (5, 6) consisting of granulated slag in which the grains of the said slag are bonded together by a binder while retaining small channels between said grains. The drainage layer compound preferably also contains silicic acid which expands when heated. The binder of the drainage layer compound is preferably a water-activatable, heat resistant compound containing cement, preferably alumina cement. The drainage layer material exhibits good long-term permeability to water and steam. The drainage system in the floor region of the trap trench (1) preferably takes the form of the drainage layer (5) consisting of granulated slag and binder and bearing floor plates (8) with a continuous ventilation space (13) beneath the floor plates (8) and wall plates (16) applied to the side walls of the trap trench, also with a continuous ventilation space (17) between the wall plates (16) and the trench wall (15). |
