A method of producing lower polyols and mixtures thereof comprising the hydrogenation and hydrogenolysis under pressure of higher polyols is carried out in the presence of a platinum-based catalyst supported on an inert substrate and modified by sulphides in order to increase its selectivity towards the production of glycols. |
