<p>A method for estimating motion contents in a video signal is presented. The motion is represented by a two-dimensional motion vector field, including horizontal and vertical vector components. The method is an improvement of the so called block matching technique. The new method can be used in a wide range of applications and satisfies the criterion of high spatial and motion vector resolution, is robust under adverse signal conditions, and is adapted for cost effective real-time implementations. Basically, the method is based on hierarchical processing with different block sizes from coarser to finer with prediction of motion vectors from surrounding blocks.</p> |
