The meat slicer (1) proposed comprises a housing (2), a rotating circular cutter blade (K), a sliding carriage (3) which may be driven either by hand or by motor to execute a reciprocating motion and which is designed to hold the meat to be sliced, and a pivoting gripping device (4) which can be displaced at right angles to the direction of motion of the carriage (3) and which holds the meat in place on the carriage and feeds it towards the cutter blade (K). Fitted on the carriage (3) so that it cannot rotate is a guide shaft (6) along which the pivoting meat-gripping device (4) can travel at right angles to the direction of motion of the carriage (3). Between the gripping device and its pivot shaft (7) is a coupling locking element (44) which is self-locking in one direction of rotation.
