Cleaning waste water from printing operations - in which desorption air is purified in activated carbon@ filter before venting, and desorbed water is further filtered

In cleaning waste water from printing works, the water is settled (1), filtered (3, 4) and is then stripped (5), using air (17) as the desorption medium. The stripping air is cooled and then cleaned in an activated carbon filter. A water softener (29) is provided in the water inlet to the printing plant (30, 31) and a cooling device (27) and activated C filter (21) are provided in the air outlet (19, 20) from the desorption tank (5). The water softener is in the form of a calcium ion exchanger unit. A filter (6) downstream of the desorption tank consists of a vessel inside which is a removable insert which has a permeable floor and which contains a filtration or reaction material. The clean water outlet from this filter is at a short distance above its floor, so that a sump is formed in the lower part of the filter from which a drain pipe leads to a sludge receiving tank.
