The level gauge has a hollow metal profile (1) incorporating a circular window (9) for viewing a cylindrical level cell (25). This is supported by a holder ring (12) of similar size to the window and a cooperating support (4) fitted axially into the metal profile. The holder ring is secured to the inserted support to prevent its axial movement but allowing its rotation to provide vertical and horizontal level measurements. Pref. the fixing between the holder ring and the support uses a number of projecting cams and cooperating axial guide grooves, locating the holder ring so that its end faces lie flush with the surface of the metal profile.
