An exercise assembly (10) is provided which has a base (11) supporting a footrest assembly (12) for pivotable movement whereby the footrests (20) may be moved to and fro to exercise a user's legs. Restraining means in the form of a resilient leaf spring (31) is supported between the footrest assembly (12) and the base (11) to restrain pivotal movement therebetween. Adjacent the limit of relative pivotal movement between the footrest assembly (12) and the base (11) the resilient leaf spring (31) constitutes as a resilient stop.
