PURPOSE:To attain the recording in the standard mode to the utmost by generating a correction pulse stabilizing a tape phase and speed based on a mute signal so as to skip undesired areas. CONSTITUTION:A time for desiring a time zone is set to a timer video recording time setting section 11 of a timer processing circuit 1 and the operation is started for the time zone. A specific information signal detection section 2 fetching an input signal VI detects whether or not information is specific information and outputs a detection signal to select the standard mode for the recording mode in the case of the specific information and outputs a detection signal to select the EP mode for the recording mode in the other cases. Then a video recording mode changeover section 13 of the circuit 1 outputs a mode switching signal synchronously with the detection signal to a servo control circuit 3 at the tape recording speed changeover. A correction pulse generating section 33 of the circuit 3 generates an acceleration or deceleration correction pulse in a prescribed timing and applies it to a tape speed control section 31. Since an undesired area is recorded in the EP mode at recording automatically, skip operation is implemented and the signal is recorded in the standard mode to the utmost.
