CVD DIAMOND-COATED ULTRASONIC PROBE TIP

PURPOSE: To improve the life of a horn- or probe-type ultrasonic processor by increasing resistance of the horn or tip to the sound vibration, and heat. CONSTITUTION: This ultrasonic horn or probe processor is prepared by coating the exterior surface of its horn or probe with a layer of one or more CVD diamond, a CVD diamond-like material (e.g. amorphous carbon or amorphous hydrocarbon), thermally stable diamond or thermally stable CBN. The method for preparing the improved ultrasonic horn or probe processor is comprised of covering the exterior surface of the horn or the probe with a coating comprising CVD diamond or the CVD diamond-like material. The coating can be brazed on the surface of the horn or the probe or a CVD-layer is directly brazed on it.
