PURPOSE:To produce a hydrogen-containing chloromethane compound such as chloroform capable of serving as an important raw material for various chlorofluoro compounds in high selectivity by hydrogenating carbon tetrachloride in order to convert the carbon tetrachloride into the useful compound, the carbon tetrachloride being a regulation target compound. CONSTITUTION:Carbon tetrachloride is hydrogenated in the presence of a reduction catalyst comprising a platinum group metal, at least one element selected from the group consisting of Sb, Bi, Sn, Pb, Ga, In, Tl, Zn, Cd and Hg and at least one selected from a group consisting of Ni, Fe, Co, Cr, Mo, W and Re to produce a hydrogen-containing chloromethane compound. |
