Process for preparing acetic anhydride, characterised in that methyl formate is reacted with a gas mainly comprising CO, under a pressure of at least 1 MPa and in the presence of

  a) a rhodium-based catalyst,
  b) two, successively ionic and covalent, iodinated promoters of different nature, and
  c) an N-substituted cyclic amide as solvent.
