<p>PURPOSE:To suppress a voltage drop caused by a wire resistor arranged in feeder path connected to a heating element of a line thermal head and thereby improve a print quality. CONSTITUTION:A line thermal head has a heating element array consisting of heating elements 1 which are selectively driven in accordance with print data and aligned linearly. CPU 3 drives the heating element array in time- division mode by applying a strobe signal to each physical block obtained with the division of each heating elements 1. In addition, main electrodes 51, 52...5k and 61, 62, 63...6k are provided so that a feeder path of drive current is formed for each group of a specified number of the physical blocks. CPU 3 controls the timing of a strobe signal so that the strobe signal is not applied to all the specified number of the physical blocks to which an electric power is applied through the main electrode, at the same timing. For example, the first and second physical blocks which receive a power supply through the main electrode 51 are not simultaneously driven. Thus a voltage drop which restricts the amount of drive current running through the main electrode 51 is controlled.</p> |
