Disclosed is a benzopyrane derivative represented by the general formula given below or a pharmacuetically acceptable salt thereof: (I) where R1, etc. are as defined in the specification. The compound permits activating the potassium channel and produces a substained effect of reducing the blood pressure and, thus, to produce the action of relaxing the capillary vessels. It follows that the particular compound is useful as a therapeutic agent of hypertension. The compound also permits selectively increasing the coronary blood stream and, thus, is useful as a therapeutic agent of cardiovascular disorder such as angina pectoris and heart failure.
