PURPOSE:To provide the optical function element which allows easy production and has a low-reflection and face. CONSTITUTION:The entire part is constituted of a semiconductor and the cleavage faces of an optical waveguide 5 are an incident and face 5a an exit end face 5b. These end faces 5a, 5b are inclined 65 to 85 deg. with a horizontal plane. The end faces of optical fibers are so diagonally ground as to satisfy the relation n1.sintheta1=n2.sintheta2 (n1 is the refractive index of the optical fibers; n2 is the refractive index of the optical function element; theta1 is the incident angle of light; theta2 is the refractive angle to the optical waveguide 5), then the optical fibers are connected at the time of connecting the optical fibers to these end faces 5a, 5b. Then, the reflected light at the end face of the optical function element propagates in the direction different from the propagation direction of the light and, therefore, this end face serves as an equivalently low-reflection end face. Since this end face is the cleavage plane of the constituting semiconductor, the process for producing the optical function element is not laborious. |
