PURPOSE:To provide a LB membrane-forming material comprising a mixture of a long chain alkylamino compound with a long chain alkyl carboxylic acid, and suitable for forming thin membranes of organic material having good functional properties. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula: CH3(CH2)n-A-NH2 (A is group of formula I, II, III, etc.; R is H, CH3, OH, OCH3, NH2, CO2, CN, COOH, etc.; n is 15-29) is mixed with a compound of formula: CH3(CH2)n-A-COOH in a molar ratio of 1:1 to form a stable and good LB membrane. Since the addition of an arachinic acid, etc., is not required, the properties of the functional organic material are hard to be decomposed. The alkylamino compound and the alkyl carboxylic acid include 5-stearylamino-2-nitroaniline and 5-stearylamino-2- nitrobenzoic acid, respectively.
