PURPOSE:To improve mechanical characteristics of carbon fiber composite materials by modifying the surface layer of carbon fiber. CONSTITUTION:The conjugate carbon fiber is characterized in that carbon fiber is composed of a silicide layer 23 that is an inner layer in which carbon fiber is partially or wholly converted into silicon carbide having a crystal structure consisting essentially of 2H or 3C polytype or a mixture of 2H with 3C polytypes and silicon carbide 24 of a denser substance than that of the inner layer, deposited and coated on the aforementioned silicon carbide. |
