PURPOSE:To provide an exhaust gas cleaning apparatus whose NOx cleaning performance does not degrade owing to the effect of water in the exhaust gas in the case where zeolite ion-exchanged with transition metals is used as a catalyst for exhaust gas cleaning. CONSTITUTION:In an exhaust system 4 of an engine 2, a catalyst body 10 in which zeolite ion-exchanged with transition metals are carried as a catalist for exhaust gas cleaning is installed and at the same time a water decreasing means 12 to decrease water contained in the exhaust gas to 5% is installed on the upper steam side of the catalyst body 10. For the water decreasing means 12, for example, a catalyst 14 for the aqueous gas reaction such as an CuO-Cr2O3 composite oxide catalyst, etc., which accelerates aqueous gas reaction is suitable. |
