Modules for use in fluid separations, especially contained liquid membrane separations, exhibit minimal effective membrane thickness. The modules have a module case and first and second sets of superposed fabric layers within the case. Each fabric layer contains warp-wise extending hollow fiber membranes. In such a manner, the hollow fiber membranes of the first set of fabric layers alternate with the hollow fiber membranes in the second set of fabric layers so as to minimize the effective membrane thickness value of the module which thereby enhances the efficacy of fluid separations.
