A device for separating boards from a cant (5) shaped with a main portion and two side portions of less height than the main portion, is disclosed. This device comprises one or more plates (14) arranged adjacent to a conveyor (4) and mounted on carriers (15) which are movable towards and away from the conveyor and acted upon by spring means at all times striving to move the plate towards the conveyor. The plate (14) is inclined obliquely downwards and outwards from an upper edge (16) in the vicinity of the conveyor, this upper edge (16) of the plate (14) being applicable, under the action of the spring means, against the main portion of the cant in a corner area under the side portion so as to intercept the board formed by the side portion when separated from the main portion, and to guide this board laterally away from the conveyor, at the same time as the latter advances the main portion of the cant. |
