The remote control device allows a number of lights within the vehicle passenger space to be operated, in response to a control signal from a remote control transmission (65). This is achieved using a multiplex control system (10), which has a central control station (12) with a central processing unit and a central regulator and a number of remote multiplex regulators contained in modules (35...38) as spaced points within the vehicle (11). The central control station (12) is linked to each remote multiplex regulator via a multiplex data bus (21), for providing control signals allowing the lights to be switched on for a timed interval, in response to the transmitted remote control signal. ADVANTAGE - Allows vehicle to be identified in overcrowded or dark car park etc.
