The variable vehicle parameter monitoring appts. has at least one source (10) connected at one terminal (12) to one pole (16) of the voltage supply and connected to the opposite supply voltage pole (22) at the second terminal (18) via a series switch (32). The potential across the source terminals (12, 18) when the switch (32) is open is compared with a reference potential, to indicate failure of the source (10) when the compared potentials differ by more than a given amount.
