A balance (1) has a load bearer (4) acting on an elastic arrangement (3) whose load dependent elastic deformation is displayed on a scale (5). The elastic arrangement is a closed gas column and the load bearer is mounted on a deformable container (2) filled with a liquid (2A). The liquid acts on the gas column so that the meniscus on the liquid is displayed against the adjacent scale to show the deformation of the gas column and hence the wt. (G) applied to the load bearer. ADVANTAGE - Relatively simple balance exhibits practically no wear and requires no current supply.
