The method detects upside-down winding of magnetic tape on a cassette using a leader tape coated with a black non grossy mark and a fiber sensor. The black non grossy mark having width of 15 mm is coated on center of the leader tape and slanting lines are coated on both sides of the centered mark for eye inspection. The fiber sensor is deposited on a hub fixing base of a take-up reel to detect the upside down winding of magnetic tape by inspecting reflection or absorption of light by the leader tape.
