888,706. Seats. LORENZ, A. Feb. 9, 1960 [Sept. 11, 1959], No. 4544/60. Class 52(2) In a reclining chair, combined seat and back 22 is supported by links 38, 46 on pivoted bar 32. Bar 32 is supported on the chair frame by pivot 34 and stop 36. Links 38, 46 swing about their pivots 40, 48 to move member 22 fore and aft almost rectilinearly in parallel with bar 32, which remains stationary during this movement. Simultaneously, bar 76 erects or extracts foot-rest 28. A pin 88, fixed on the chair frame, rides in two arcuate sections 86a and 86b of a slot in link 46. Section 86a is concentric with pivot 48 and section 86b is concentric with pivot 34. Thus the relative inclination of link 46 and bar 32 remains unaltered when the bar is pivoted about pivot 34 and the member 22 is tilted backwarldy, from the position shown, into engagement with frame member 18 (Fig. 3, not shown), and the foot-rest is accordingly retained in the erected position during the tilting movement. |
