The heat exchanger has an intake and discharge for a medium to be cooled, and there are passages for cooling air. The exchanger is located behind a section of the vehicle, e.g. a bumper (16), which covers a central exchanger zone. The medium to be cooled is conducted between the exchanger intake (26) and discharge (28), so that the covered zone, between (44) and (46) behind the bumper - forms the coolest part of the cooling surface of the heat exchanger. The exchanger is divided into three horizontal sections, the third section forming the covered zone, and containing the outlet. USE/ADVANTAGE - Improved performance of vehicle radiator with bumper covering and blanking off central portion of radiator.
