Purifying waste water in dentists surgery - by passing water through holding tank in which impurities are sedimented and drained at intervals into removable container for disposal

In a procedure for sepg. impurities from waste water in dentist's surgeries, the water is held in a holding vessel until the impurities are sepd. by sedimentation, and the impurities which are deposited in a sedimentation zone at the floor of the vessel are transferred at regular intervals to a sediment collecting container. Water overflowing from this container is pumped back into the holding vessel and the container is from time to time cleaned externally, sealed and disposed of. Specifically, waste water enters the holding vessel via an upper inlet and leaves it via an outlet just above the sedimentation zone. A vacuum pump may be used to reduce the pressure in the holding vessel and may be in the form of a water-ring pump or a vacuum cleaner pump. The vacuum cleaner pump may be used as an emergency back-up pump. The pref. configuration has PVC tubes, whose lower ends are open to the sedimentation zone, the inlet being in the upper part of the first tube, the upper ends of neighbouring tubes being connected by pipes and the upper end of the last tube being connected to the vacuum pump. The tops of the tubes are at the same level and their lengths reduce from the first to the last. The floor of the sedimentation zone is inclined towards one end. A valve connects this zone to the sediment container. A filter, U-tube and sample-point are provided in the water outlet. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in removing impurities, and especially amalgam, from waste water in dentist's surgeries. The proposed system is economical and simple in operation. Maintenance requirements are much less, and the efficiency of separation is improved in relation to existing systems.
