Labels are generated by creating a code in accordance with a code given to each medicine and creating code determined from the parameters for that particular prescription. The doses of the prescribed medicines are read on the prescription using a code reader (4) which incorporates a memory. The parameters are read with the same reader and are then stored. The stored information is read and processed (5) to generate a control signal initiating the delivery of the stored information to a printing device (11). A bar code reader is pref. coupled to a computer which in turn drives a printer.
