ACTIVE MATRIX DRIVE TYPE LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

PURPOSE:To prevent a light leak and disclination line from being caused and generated nearby a data line on the active matrix drive type liquid crystal display. CONSTITUTION:A counter electrode 9 (hatched part) is formed of an assembly of striped electrodes 9a for converging electric fields from data lines 3 and display electrodes 9b corresponding to picture element electrodes 6 connected to the striped electrodes on TFTs 5. Further, a black mask on a counter electrode substrate is formed of an insulator. Consequently, the electric field intensity in areas by the data lines decreases and unnecessary migration of liquid crystal molecules is suppressed to prevent the light leak and the formation of the disclination line.
