PURPOSE: To control an engine and a DC to DC converter to optimize operation of a transmission to match the requirements of a user to the performance of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: An electromechanical transmission comprises an engine driven generator 10 and a motor 12 driving one or more wheels 14 of a vehicle wherein the generator 10 is coupled with the motor 12 through a DC to DC converter 31. Consequently, current output from the motor 10 can be varied to supply the motor 12 and a control unit 34 with an appropriate current input. The controller comprises a converter 33 for sensing the operation of the vehicle, and a speed controller 35 for operation by the driver. |
