A thread-forming screw with a thread (4) having one or more starts and extending at least partially over its screw shank (1), a screw tip (3) and a screw head (2), the edge (5) forming the thread tip being at least partially wave-shaped and the thread (4) running up to the end of the screw tip (3) and the wave-shaped thread tip on the screw tip (3) having a depression interrupting the flank surface in the section of the wave troughs of the edge (5) at least on the first adjacent thread pitch of the screw shank, at least on its flank surface facing the screw tip (3), the upper boundary of which depression is the edge (5) forming the thread tip. The depressions (6) are constructed asymmetrically in such a manner that their front flank surface (7) in the screwing-in direction runs more steeply than the rear flank surface (8) in the screwing-in direction. ��
