In the appts. to transport and preserve skins and pelts, the preservation of the unsalted skins is within a hermetically sealed vessel directly after skinning. A cooling system at the inner side of the outer vessel delivers coolant air round the rotating inner drum contg. the skins, so that the skins are constantly kept cool by rotation against and within the cooled drum. Pref., spiral is fitted to the inner side of the drum, connected to cooling pockets on the outer side of the drum within the vessel. Cones are shaped at the left and right ends of the drum cylinder, in a shaped and keyed fit, to reverse the direction of movement within the contained mass of skins. The cones have an angle of 50-65 deg. The pitch of the spirals continuously decreases within the inner side of the cone at the drive end of the drum, as far as its end. Beating surfaces for the coolant air are on the outer sides of the cones. ADVANTAGE - The system gives a constant preservation action on the skins, with a cool temp., from the slaughterhouse to the processing plant, without allowing the skins to stick together.
