A mechanical triggering sensor has a striker bolt biassed towards an ignition capsule, a locking device with a spring-loaded locking body and a sensor mass arrangement (4-8) including the inertial mass of the locking body (6) which moves out of the locked position under excessive acceleration or deceleration. The sensor mass arrangement contains a magnetic body (8) which attracts the locking body towards the locking position. The magnetic body can be moved away from the locking body by the action of a second inertial mass (7) to reduce the attraction force. ADVANTAGE - Detects wide range of accident characteristics.
