A portable sign comprises a shaped panel 4 which has information-conveying markings on a front face thereof. Fixed to a rear face of the panel 4 is a flexible material sleeve 6 with a tapered bore which is engageable by a free-standing road cone 1 for mounting the panel 4 above ground level.
