PURPOSE:To offer the production method of glass base material for single-mode optical fiber showing a stable difference of specific refractive index ( n) in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:The glass base material for single-mode optical fiber of this invention is manufactured by depositing Ge-doped glass fine particles on a target base body, drawing this base body to the axial direction to form a porous glass base material, dehydrating and sintering the base material at high temp. In this process, the dehydrating temp. of the porous glass base material is controlled in a manner that the treating temp. in the starting and ending regions of the glass base material is set higher than the intermediate region. |
