A method and apparatus for producing a glass sheet and sealing strip assembly includes successive operations of preparing the rim of the sheet and application of the strip. Before the edge preparation step the whole of one face of the sheet is covered with a protective film of self-adhesive plastic material which is trimmed and removed from the edge region. The film is completely removed after application of the sealing strip. The apparatus consists of a production line comprising in succession a machine for applying the coating film, a trimming device for removing the film from the edge region, apparatus for preparing the sheet edges and for applying the sealing strip to them, and apparatus for peeling the film from the whole of the face.
