PURPOSE:To provide the apparatus for producing the SiC whiskers having good properties with the excellent operability and mass productivity by consisting this apparatus of an Acheson furnace having an improved soaking type construction. CONSTITUTION:Plural reaction vessels 5 each exhibiting a box shape with a cap are fixed and disposed at equal intervals in series in the longitudinal direction of the Acheson furnace, and enclosing exothermic zones 11 interposed with graphite grains in the laminar state of packing and cladding the spacings between the respective reaction vessels 5 and the peripheries thereof, are formed in the longitudinal direction of the furnace from the front end position of terminal electrodes 3. The circumferences thereof are packed with heat insulating packing materials 12. Soaking graphite pieces 6 are disposed at both ends on the outer side opposite to the terminal electrodes of the respective reaction vessels 5 and many graphite heat transfer plates vertically dividing the inside of the reaction vessels are installed, by which a soaking property is additionally enhanced. |
