PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound useful as an oxidation preventing component in foods, perfumes, dyestuffs, cosmetics and medicines, having strong antioxidation power. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by the formula. The compound is obtained by subjecting a bacterium (e.g. KK10,2060 strain) belonging to the genus Pseudomonas to submerged spinner culture in a medium (e.g. yeast essence- glucose-peptone) at 16-37 deg.C for 1-7 days and purifying the prepared cells and the culture solution. The compound has the following physical and chemical properties. Color: yellow powder. Molecular weight: 704. Molecular formula; C50H72O2. TLC: Rf=0.49 (hexane-acetone (7:3'v/v), developed on silica gel 60F254 manufactured by Merck Company). Solubility: soluble in an alcohol such as methanol, an ether, ethyl acetate, etc., and insoluble in water. Use of both the compound shown by the formula and an antioxidant (e.g. tocopherol) in a ratio of 0.1/1 to 10/1 by weight shows an excellent synergistic oxidation- preventing effect. |
