PURPOSE:To improve the light-weight and high-rigidity by making a structure where cubic boron nitride particles are mutually connected through silicon nitride particles and/or whiskers and controlling its specific modulus to a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:With 5-50vol% cubic boron nitride powder having <=100mum average particle size, a silicon powder having <=5mum average particle size, a silicon carbide powder having <=100mum average particle size and a binder for molding are blended, molded and defatted to obtain a defatted molding having >=60% relative density. The resultant molding is then sintered at <=1600 deg.C in an atmosphere containing a nitride-based gas, thus producing the objective light-weight and high-rigidity ceramics having >=80GPa/(g/cm<3>) specific modulus and <=30vol% porosity. |
