PURPOSE:To improve reliability of strength by coating the surface of a ceramic compact with fiber-reinforced ceramics, then press forming the coated compact and subsequently burning the formed compact under ordinary pressure. CONSTITUTION:Raw material powder of fiber-reinforced ceramics containing about 30wt.% SiC whiskers in alumina as a matrix is blended with alumina raw material powder to provide a ceramic layer 1. Fiber-reinforced ceramic layers 2 are then arranged on both sides of the resultant ceramic layer 1 and press formed to afford a compact having about 4 mm thickness. The resultant compact is subsequently burned at about 1700 deg.C under ordinary pressure for about 3hr to produce the objective fiber-reinforced ceramics which are composite ceramics. |
