This variable drive comprises, on the one hand, a pulley with two trapezoidal grooves (5-6) one of them capable of receiving a V belt (7) interacting with a fixed grooved drive pulley and the other capable of interacting with a V belt (8) interacting with a fixed groove receiving pulley, these two trapezoidal grooves being delimited by two lateral flanges (12-13) and a central flange (10) at least one of which is mounted with the possibility of relative axial displacement with respect to the others (12-13 or 10) on a hub (9), itself mounted so that it can rotate freely on a shaft (16) parallel to the shafts of the driving and receiving pulleys and, on the other hand, control means for moving this shaft in the gap between the two aforementioned shafts and bringing about the variation in working winding diameters of these belts (7-8). <IMAGE>
