A stamping device for use on mild bottle capping-machines which produces aluminium caps in two different sizes comprises two stamping machines disposed adjacently in one housing into which a drive shaft having an eccentrically disposed coupling projects, the shaft being adapted to be coupled optionally with either of the stamping tools by a connecting ram. Two tools having split rams 6 connected by an adjustable link 7 are mounted in a housing 1 and driven via a shaft 3 having an eccentric end 4 on which is attached a looselyfitting coupling 5 which is optionally connected to one of the rams 6. The lower ends of the rams are pivotally connected at 8 to the diecarriers. An aluminium band is fed to the left-hand unit from an upper draw-off roll 10 and a guide roll 13, over a tensioning roll 12 on a bell-crank 11 moved by means of an eccentric (not shown) contacting a roll 15, over a guide roll 14, lower guide rolls 12, 13, and past the dies to a discharge mechanism comprising a pair of rolls 16, 17, one of which is driven. The right-hand unit is similarly fed from a lower draw-off roll after disengaging the upper guide and tensioning rolls 13, 12 and engaging the lower guide and tensioning rolls 13, 12 in conjunction with the lower draw-off roll 10. In operation, the respective tensioning rolls 12 are moved by the eccentric against the strip to prevent the drawn-off strip from moving through the dies during the stamping operation. The speed of rolls 16, 17 is adjusted to the greatest band feed so that slipping occurs with lower feeds dependent upon the tension applied to the strip by the tensioning rolls.</p> |
